While the transmitter is powered off during construction periods,
general cleaning is performed.

Steve Rhodes standing by the top piece of the 500' tower. The
red unit contains two 650 watt bulbs which make up the top flashing
beacon to meet FAA requirements.

This is a close up shot of the lightning protectors that surround
the top of the tower. These metal fingers constantly disperse
any static electrical charge and carry it off to the ground which
prevents the tower from taking a lightning strike.

In the photo below, a safety climb cable is installed on the tower:

Seven guide cables how the tower secure from three locations. The
final cable (top) will be installed tomorrow.
